Befrienders Highland (BHL)

Befrienders Highland is an established charity providing a volunteer befriending service for people living in the Highlands who have experienced mental ill health and are isolated or lonely. We offer Face to Face befriending in Inverness, Nairn & Ardersier areas and Distance Befriending (by telephone; letter or email) Highland wide. Trained volunteers provide 1-1 safe, supported and confidential friendship to people with experience of mental ill health either through face to face social contact or by telephone, letter or email.

BHL are also now operating a pilot programme offering Distance Befriending to people who have dementia in its early stages or memory difficulties. This service is available to anyone living in the Highland or Argylly and Bute areas.

Distance Befriending will also soon open their service to people with mental ill health living in the Argyll and Bute areas.

Addictions Counselling Inverness

Addictions Counselling Inverness (formerly Alcohol Counselling Inverness) is a voluntary organisation which supports individuals who may be experiencing problems with addiction. We also provide individuals and interested organisations with information and advice on addiction and alcohol & drugs issues.

We offer free, confidential, one-to-one counselling delivered by trained volunteer counsellors. Our counselling is “person-centred” and based on recognised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. Most of our clients phone up and make their own appointments, while others are referred by GPs, social work, employers and other care agencies such as Osprey House. We provide both daytime and evening counselling sessions at our premises, 70 Tomnahurich Street, close to the city centre.
